RISK – Electric shock
Test and prove electrical equipment is isolated before commencing work.
Even if the electrical supply is believed to be isolated, it must be assumed that all conducted and electrical components are energised until they are proved de-energised.
Methods of confirming isolation or zero energy state include:
- Stored energy release
- Voltage check
- Phase indication lights
Refer to Isolation Procedure and the documented safe systems of work (Electrical Works Management Plan, Safe Operating Procedures, TRAs etc.) for further information.
High voltage equipment and cables pose additional electrical risks. The methodology and risk assessments for working with HV equipment must be reviewed by Subject Matter Experts to ensure the safety of personnel.
