4.B Install, inspect, test and tag electrical equipment to legislative requirements

RISK – Electric shock  

Ensure all portable electrical equipment (incl. temporary electrical equipment, power and lighting) is installed, tested and tagged in accordance with local legislative requirements.

 

 

 

Tools, instruments, and equipment that are poorly maintained, inappropriately used or not fit for purpose can cause injuries.

 

 

The inspection and testing frequency of all electrical equipment being used on a construction or demolition site must comply with AS3012 and state legislation.

Portable equipment must be verified at least every 3 months.

Transportable structures, fixed and transportable equipment and construction wiring must be verified at least every 6 months.

 

 

 

 

A durable tag must be attached after inspecting and testing portable electrical equipment to clearly show the test date and the next scheduled test and inspection date.

 

 

The inspection and testing must be conducted by a competent Electrical Worker or authorised person in accordance with AS/NZS 3760 and State requirements.

 

 

If equipment has not passed the inspection or shows signs of damage, it must immediately be tagged out of service and removed from the workplace to prevent any inadvertent use.
