RISK – Damage to Temporary Work and/or Temporary Work failure
Physical protection may include erecting physical barricading around temporary works. A suitable impact allowance in the design may be in the form of providing an impact point load in accordance with the relevant Standards.
Damage or impact can be a result of adverse weather conditions or adjacent work practices.
Where physical protection is not possible, engineering design controls must be implemented as a minimum (e.g. including an allowance in design for impact loading or critical member removal).
Consider the movement of plant, materials and personnel around the workplace, the nature of adjacent construction activities and the proximity to temporary works. Methods of protection may include:
- Clear marking and delineation of zones of travel
- Demarcation by para-webbing or similar
- Use of plastic, steel or concrete jersey barriers as appropriate
Consider the potential hazards caused by adverse weather conditions and provide appropriate protection from the effects of wind, sun, temperature, rain and runoff.
