RISK – Temporary Work failure
Working load limits for temporary works must be displayed or communicated to all personnel likely to use the temporary works.
In regards to crane pads and working platforms for piling and other heavy equipment, the Working Platform Certificate (WPC) (linked below) must be completed to ensure the platform is suitable for the task.
The WPC will state the platform’s maximum loading capacity and/or the specific equipment that it has been designed to support.
For information on loading of scaffolds, see guidance for GMR 5.B.
Designs briefs must also include the load requirements, including wind and other environmental loads.
Personnel / material hoists must be selected based on the nature of the loads to be lifted, the maximum mass and dimensions of the loads, maximum number of persons to be carried and allowable concentrated hoist floor loadings.
Before erecting a hoist, you must first understand the buildings bearing capacity to support the mass of the hoist, and ensure the ties to the building have adequate load capacity.
