RISK – Polluting waterways
Authorisation will be granted in the form of a Water Discharge Permit. Other mandatory controls include water testing and ongoing monitoring.
- Water pollution has the potential to cause harm to the environment and is a breach of legislation.
- Individuals and organisations are both liable.
- Before discharging any water off site, a water discharge permit (linked below) must be in place and signed to ensure all requirements are complied with, including any water quality criteria.
- Pumping and discharge equipment must be set-up to prevent bottom sediment being released (for example floats).
- Regular monitoring of the water discharge is required to confirm compliance.
See Water Discharge Procedure (linked below) for further guidance on managing water discharge.
