9.B Minimise dust, noise and vibration at all times and work within approved site working hours

RISK – Disturbing local communities and polluting the environment

  • Dust, working hours, noise and vibration controls are identified in the EMP and SEP. Check your SEP for the location of sensitive receivers.
  • Speak up if you don’t think works can be completed within approved work hours.

 

 

  • We are guests in the community and we need to be mindful that our work may impact both the community and environment.
  • Dust may impact the health of people on site, nearby properties and flora and fauna.
  • Cover all loads when transporting material to prevent dust during transit

 

 

  • Regularly check dust, noise and vibration controls are in place.
  • Undertake surveillance of plant and equipment to confirm controls are operating and in place.
  • Undertake monitoring where identified in the Environment Control Plan (ECP).

 

 

  • Ensure delivery drivers and subcontractors are aware of and utilise the designated delivery routes, park and queue in nominated areas to minimise traffic and noise impacts to the community.
  • All suppliers and subcontractors should be advised of traffic routes and site specific arrangements via written correspondence.
  • Where possible, advice, including a route map should form part of contract packages or be provided with Purchase Orders.

 

 

  • Manage dust with the use of controls such as water carts or other ground stablilisation methods (e.g. spray grass, hydromulch, soil binders or geofabric)
  • Monitor the weather forecast when planning and executing activities and modify works if required.

 

 

  • When planning activities (including during AMS workshops), consider the impacts from activities and tasks or equipment that could generate air pollution, noise, vibration and light.
  • Confirm and install controls prior to commencing works where required as per the ECP and SEP (Site Environment Plans) to reduce impacts and to ensure compliance.

 

 

  • Consider artificial lighting requirements and the need to balance safety and environmental concerns.
  • Alternative lighting options (colour/intensity/orientation) can help to minimise brightness and impacts to the community through light spill and disturbance to native fauna.
